Harry Styles, Little Simz and Wet Leg shortlisted for Mercury Prize 2022
The nominees have been announced for the annual music award.
This year the 12 shortlisted artists for the Mercury Prize include Wet Leg for their self-titled debut album and Harry Styles for his latest record Harry’s House. Both Yard Act and Kojey Radical are also up for the prize with their respective debut LPs. Elsewhere, other acts nominated for the best album released in the UK by a British or Irish artist are Sam Fender, Self Esteem, Joy Crookes, Gwenno, Fergus McCreadie and Jessie Buckley & Bernard Butler. Former Crack Magazine cover star Little Simz is also up for the award for Sometimes I Might Be An Introvert.
The judging panel is made up of figures from the music industry including previous Mercury Prize nominees Anna Calvi and Loyle Carner as well as Jamz Supernova, Annie Mac and Jeff Smith, the head of music at BBC 6 Music and Radio 2 who also chairs the panel this year.
The 2022 awards ceremony will be held on 8 September at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith with live performances from the shortlisted artists. See the full list of nominees and the albums for which they were nominated below.
