Little Simz, Radiohead and Ross From Friends win at the UK MVAs 2022
Each year, the UK Music Video Awards honours the craft and content behind some of the best music videos from the past year. The 2022 awards ceremony took place yesterday (27 October) in London.
This year marked the 15th UK MVAs and saw Little Simz’s Point & Kill – which features Obongjayar and was directed by Ebeneza Blanche – win three awards. Other UK acts that took home prizes include black midi, Radiohead, Harry Styles and Wu-Lu – the latter of whom were awarded Best Hip Hop/Grime/Rap newcomer for their Ethan & Tom directed video Ten.
Pharrell’s Cash In Cash Out won four awards including the coveted Video of the Year prize. The video, which also features 21 Savage and Tyler the Creator, was also honoured for its animation, taking home the Best Animation and VFX award. Directed by Francois Rousselet, the music video took more than a year to make and is based around a CGI-made zeotrope machine.
Elsewhere, Rosalía’s Saoko was awarded Best Pop Video whilst Cavetown and Beabadoobee‘s Fall In Love With A Girl garnered Best Pop Video newcomer. Arca also took home an award for Prada/Rakata – which she co-directed with Frederik Heyman – winning Best Dance/Electronic Video internationally for the video.
Ross From Friends’ The Daisy picked up the award for Best Dance/Electronic Video newcomer. The music video was directed by Rudá Santos as part of our Three Minutes incubator scheme for young directors. Rising duo Sad Night Dynamite were also amongst this year’s winners and were awarded Best Special Visual Project for their Volume II Mix Tape.
