We’re screening the new documentary Rebel Dread, which tells the story of the pioneering artist, DJ and filmmaker Don Letts. Directed by William E. Badgley, the documentary delves into the overlap between the punk and Rastafarian scenes, exploring how Letts introduced dub reggae to punks. Pivotal moments of Letts’ career are documented in detail – from bringing MTV their first video starring a Black musician to his feature film work that connected the dots between artists such as John Lydon to Gil Scott-Heron.
Aside from music, Badgley takes the temperature of the political climate, showing the effects of the UK’s “hostile environment” immigration policy of 2018.
Due to licensing restrictions, Rebel Dread is available in the UK only. The film is free for Supporters to watch between 10 June to 10 July via Bohemia Euphoria – an entertainment streaming platform championing historically excluded voices.
