crackaud.io mixes from July: Touching Bass, Julee Cruise and Organ Tapes
From the seductive dancefloor sounds of Floorgasm to guitar-driven selections featuring Avril Lavigne and The Distillers, we’ve got all bases covered over on crackaud.io. Catch up on our selection of July mixes on the platform.
Kicking off the past month’s mixes, there’s a special dedicated to the late Julee Cruise, who passed away on 9 June, curated by DJ, musician and sound designer Patricia Wolf. There’s also an all-night long recording from a Touching Bass and Eglo Dance Records’ party, tapping into the “beautiful house party” energy of their nights. Clocking in at almost six hours the mix features sets from Shy One, Stefan Ringer, Aqwea, Born Cheating, Alexander Nut and Touching Bass founder Errol Anderson, who we spoke to for our July issue feature with the collective.
For our Sunday mix series, Organ Tapes curated 47-minutes of guitar-driven selections featuring Avril Lavigne, HTRK and The Distillers. If you’re looking for something more dance-oriented then get locked into DJ Wawa‘s playful, house-driven selections or a club-centric set from Borne Fruits founder Amaliah. On the pop tip, Australian artist Ninajirachi continues our Pop Zone series with high-octane club and electronic cuts.
Elsewhere from July, there’s DJ Cora’s Nigerian Cruise mix, charting the fast-tempo musical movement – also known as freebeat – coming out of Lagos. We’ve also got a mix by Charlotte Dos Santos delving into some música popular brasileira classics from the Brazilian-Norweigan artist’s childhood.
In our regular Crack Mix series, Kamma and Masalo bring the feel-good dance selections whilst Toribio’s nearly two-hour mix draws on “jazz, hip-hop, Afro, house, techno, dembow, soul [and] rhythm.”
As part of our ongoing Pride season coverage, alongside a feature on the LSDXOXO-founded Floorgasm, resident DJ Yha Yha steps up for a hard and seductive set – definitely one to get you in the mood for a night out.
For a more chilled vibe, our Sunday mixes from the past month feature Olmo tapping into that Sunday feeling of recharging and reconnecting and Kareem Ali’s favourite downtempo songs. There’s also a warm, soulful mix of rap and R&B from Orion Sun taking in tracks from PinkPantheress, Childish Gambino, Frank Ocean and Junglepussy.
If you’re looking for a new podcast, then we have the audio version of our Ori Deck feature from the July issue and our conversation with Ethel Cain.
