Mitski returns with new single Working for the Knife
The Be the Cowboy artist is back with a new track, music video and a UK and European tour announcement.
Mitski has released a new song entitled Working for the Knife. The single dropped today (5 October) alongside a new music video shot at performing arts venue The Egg in Albany, New York. The singer-songwriter has also announced a forthcoming UK and European tour, which commences on 21 April 2022 in Bristol and concludes on 19 May 2022 in Munich.
New track Working for the Knife features production from longtime Mitski collaborator Patrick Hyland. In a statement, Mitski explains that the song is about “going from being a kid with a dream, to a grown up with a job, and feeling that somewhere along the way you got left behind.”
Continuing, she adds: “It’s being confronted with a world that doesn’t seem to recognize your humanity, and seeing no way out of it.”
Mitski released her fifth album Be the Cowboy in 2018. In our review, we said the record possessed a “certain sense of growth from her breakthrough album, 2016’s Puberty 2”, dubbing it “bolder, more ambitious and experimental.”
In the time since, Mitski has contributed a song, Cop Car, to Floria Sigismondi’s 2020 horror film The Turning, and has collaborated with Allie X on track entitled Susie Save Your Love. She also wrote and recorded the score for This Is Where We Fall, a forthcoming sci-fi graphic novel from Chris Miskiewicz and Vincent Kings.
Mitski’s UK and European tour – her first shows over here since 2018 – follows on from a string of dates in the US. She’ll stop by venues like the Roundhouse, Paradiso and Berlin’s Metropol in the spring of next year. Tickets go on sale on Friday, 8 October over on Mitski’s website.
