Nightcrawler – Partners in Pain
While there is an overabundance of producers within the darksynth / cyberpunk genres at this moment (no doubt due to the heightened presence of the scene due to the release of the video game Cyberpunk 2077), there are few who do it so well that deserve attention. One of the names that always pop into my head whenever the discussion takes place is Nightcrawler. While he was once very well known for his horror-inspired synthwave production, in the past year or so Nightcrawler has taken a liking to heavy cyberpunk beats and darksynth values. His most recent effort is the sexually charged single ‘Partners in Pain’ which is the soundtrack to your next BDSM orgy.
‘Partners in Pain’ begins trickling in the electro beats as a high-pitched synth line beckons forth further electronic reckoning. At the twenty-four second mark the main bassline runs in. Nightcrawler accents that with synthetic blasts. Several moments of the song allow the percussion to take over for big beats and cinematic sweeps. Later on in the song, choral effects are placed in the background giving it a heightened allure. This is all said without even mentioning that Nightcrawler’s production is top notch as usual; it’s clean and crisp, as the way most darksynth and cyberpunk music should be.
Leaving off the single with a score of an eight-and-a-half out of ten does it justice. But I would also like to point out that Nightcrawler released a nifty little music video alongside the single which can be streamed directly below:
